On the banks of an old town river
Down the road about a mile or two
Lives an old woman who is slow to speak
And the words that she says are few
She rise early in the morning
About a quarter till five
She gets out of bed, drops to her knees
And she raises her hands to the sky
Well her children come by to see her
But they can't stay very long
So they hug her and kiss her
And walk out the door and she's left there smiling alone
But she's no more alone than I am
Sittin here singing this song
Because she prays and she sings
To the one who saved her soul
All those years ago
And I only know what I can see
And I know that my grandma is a queen to me
Some days I wake up wondering
Will this be the day that she'll go
To her home up above, to see her sweet savior
And stay at his feet ever more
And for the rest of my days I will praise him
Because I've learned more than I'll ever know
From the life that she lived, the prayers that she prayed
And the love that she showed to us all
And I only know what I can see
And the song that I sing lets me know
Just how much she means to me
And there's love in her heart, I know
And the seeds that she planted will grow
Because the life that she lives is a walk that is plainly seen
And I know that my grandma is a queen to me
