Have You Seen This Child

One year ago, on Christmas eve, I hurried into town
Just one gift more, was all I'd need; now where could it be found?
And as I came upon a manger scene, an old ragged man came near
And as he asked his question, I thought I saw a tear, and he said
Have you seen this child? He is needed greatly!
In the midst of all this glitter, he's been absent lately
When I look into the manger, he can not be found, where is he hidden in your town?
I did not want to answer him, and could not see the crime
Still my eyes glanced at manger scene, had it been empty all this time?
And as I turned from where he pointed, he was no longer there
But I still hear his question, now I hear it ev'rywhere, and he said
My heart was like that manger, used to feed the beast
Full of all the striving; it never knew his peace
That old man's words sure woke me up, and I fell down on my knees
And I called Lord I need you, help me to believe, and I cried
Lord send me this child? He is needed greatly!
In the midst of all this glitter, he's been absent lately
When I look into my heart, he can not be found
Lord, won't you send him to me now?
