Words by John Porter
Dedicated in loving memory of Jeremy Jenkins
Am C
I can't recall just what they said,
Em
the lights and sirens in my head,
G
the day they told me he was gone forever.
Am C
And though the memories became,
Em
like a never ending pain,
G
striken in my heart a sillouette forever.
Am
And I said to myself...
Am C Em
-Am
Hold on, hold on, hold on to the pain and fear you feel inside,
C Em Am
hold on, hold on, hold on to life.
And for a moment I was blinded by the tears that I had cried,
so determined to defend his life from his own Maker.
And in the instant that I cried, "God, You're wrong and I am right"
I saw him standing with the Lord and I could hear him praying.
And I heard him say...
Hold on, hold on, hold on to His hand and He will bring you home,
hold on, hold on, hold on to him.
I know I can't escape the tears, I pray the Lord to take my fears,
and trade them by His power for joy and peace forever.
By now I know His will is right, and if I can resist the fight,
I know through His own word one day we'll walk together.
I still hear him say...
Hold on, hold on, hold on to His hand and He will bring you home,
hold on, hold on, hold on to him.
(Repeat chorus 2x)
