OLIVER BOYCE GREENE
1915 - 1976
Oliver B. Greene was born
February 14, 1915, the sixth of nine children.
His parents were farmers. As Oliver grew he
led a wicked life into young adulthood. At
age 19, the Lord saved him through the prayers
of his mother and sister, and a sermon on
Romans 6:23: "The Wages of Sin is Death".
He soon heard the call to preach and while
still in school, bought his first tent. By
the time he retired from the tent ministry
in 1966, he had recorded well over 200,000
professions of faith. In addition, he was
led to begin a radio ministry, THE GOSPEL
HOUR, a 30-minute broadcast on 150 stations.
The program is still heard daily coast-to-coast
on approximately one hundred stations.
He married Aileen Collins
on September 19, 1939, and they had three
sons. The first sone lived only two days.
Thomas Wesley, 44, and David Boyce, 40, are
still living and serving the Lord.
One of Dr. Greene's greatest
contributions to the Christian world was his
development of the soulwinning booklet. He
wrote 44 of these, all shirt-pocket size,
32 pages, with two color covers. Millions
of these booklets have been distributed all
over the world, countless professions of faith
have resulted. Oliver Greene also wrote 26
verse-by-verse commentaries on various books
of the Bible; 33 hardback sermon and study
books, and countless of his ermons appeared
in paperback form.
Foreign missions was another
burden of Oliver Greene. He visited many mission
fields and raised thousands of dollars for
their support.
Emmanuel Schools in Atlanta,
Georgia, conferred an honorary Doctor of Diviinity
degree on him in 1960 in recognition of his
many faceted ministry.
Dr. Oliver B. Greene's fourfold
outreach - meetings in churches and tents,
the radio ministry, literature, and help to
missions - was done with great energy until
his death in 1976. He always remained a true
Fundamentalist who never swerved from his
Faith.
