The Story

1Tim 1:12-15

1Tim 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

1.      Paul was telling ‘his story.’

He began telling his story in Damascus; then told it in Jerusalem, Antioch, etc.

2.      All believers have a story.

It may not be one with a “light shining down from heaven.”

But it is the same gospel story of how we became a Christian.

It is a story which will help you to present the Savior.

                        Learn to tell your story.

3.      There are some definite similarities between Paul’s story and our story.

I.             It is a True Story - “this is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.”

1.             The day of our Salvation is our first brush with TRUTH.

A.            Many don’t know what is true.

1.             How sad when one’s whole life is lived pursuing lies.

2.             The Bible pictures truth as a LIGHT.  Psalms 43:3  O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; O Lord.

3.             When the truth enlightens us, it takes us from the darkness.  John 12:46  I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

4.             The story we tell is a TRUE Story!!!

B.            Many have a story to tell,

1.             Occasionally, I am told a story of suffering and need.

2.             People will tell the most pitiful stories to get a hand-out.

3.             They seem driven to prove to me their great need for my monetary help.

4.             I only see their great need for spiritual help.

5.             Often I help just out of pity for their miserable condition.

C.            But believers have a true story.

1.             It is a story that stands out in our lives.

2.             We have witnessed God’s healing hand upon our lives.

3.             It is a story that is amazing to us.

4.             But it is God’s story, written upon the table of our lives.

II.          It is a Miraculous Story - “that Jesus Christ came into the world” v15

A.            The miracle is that God sent His only begotten Son to earth to die for our sins.

B.            The miracle is that Jesus Christ actually died in our place, for our sins.

C.            The miracle is that by faith the believer is changed from a LOST to a SAVED person.

D.            And this miracle happens each time a sinner repents and trusts Jesus Christ as his Saviour.

E.             It is a Miraculous Story!!!

III.      It is an Adventure Story - “To save sinners.”

It is a story of danger and intrigue.

A.            The danger is the great recklessness with which we live our lives, without Christ.

1.             With NO thought for eternity.

a.              No love for God.

b.              No value for our own soul.

c.              We seem bent on self destruction.

2.             We foolishly go our own way.

a.              Matthew 7:13  “. . . wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

b.              We go the way most traveled.

c.              I have marveled at the testimonies of Christians who have been plucked from the very brink of destruction.”  Unshackled! Pacific Garden Mission.

3.             But then, God finds us!

a.              Bumper stickers telling “I found it.”

b.              No, He found me!!!

c.              In this story it is always the same.

1)        We go our own way.

2)        God sows seed.

3)        God wins us.

B.            This adventure story also contains suspense.

1.             For those who pray for us, we may seem hopeless.

2.             But to God we are the great object of His search.

3.             You never can tell how close someone is to being reached.

4.             So, keep hoping for them, and keep witnessing.

IV.      It is a Love Story - “of whom I am chief.”

A.            When Stephen was stoned, Paul was there and consenting.

a.       It surely must have pained the Saviour’s heart.

B.            But when Paul was struck down with the Light on the Damascus Road,

b.      The Lord received him with open arms.

c.       He wasn’t mad with him.

d.      He didn’t grill him over his sin.

e.       The Lord called out to Paul.

f.        And Paul said, “LORD, what wilt thou have me to do?”

g.       And in that precious moment the Lord claimed Paul.

C.            It should give us some comfort that God can bring back even the most wayward son, from the most wicked place - the Prodigal.

1.             If a loved one has gone the wrong way, have hope.

2.             If any are within the reach of your witnessing, have hope.

D.            It is a story of how God is always ready to receive us into His waiting arms.

1.             No one is beyond His reach.

2.             No one has sinned too much.

E.             The Lord will just forgive it all and draw the new believer to his bosom.

V.         Conclusion

A.             Have you been telling your story?

B.            It is a story that people need to hear.

1.             It is a true story.

2.             It is a miraculous story.

3.             It is an adventurous story.

4.             It is a love story.

C.            Determine that you will tell your story.
