Godís Unspeakable Gift

Godís Unspeakable Gift

2 Cor 9:6-15

Money given to help others may to the world seem thrown away, but when given properly, it is seed sown, from which a valuable increase may be expected.

Gifts should be given freely and cheerfully; not grudgingly.

While some give liberally, and yet increase; others avoid giving, and tend to poverty.

If we had more faith and love, we would waste less on ourselves, and sow more in hope of Godís favor.

Think of it, can a man lose by doing that which pleases God?

God is able to make all grace abound towards us, and to abound in us.

He can make us to have enough of all things; and to be content with what we have.

God gives not only enough for us, but also enough to supply the wants of others.

This brings praise and glory to God.

We must follow the example of Christ, not being wearied in well doing; deeming it more blessed to give than to receive.

2 Corinthians 9:15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.

ß         The unspeakable gift of his grace,

ß         For His Son, Jesus Christ, our Saviour,

ß         The gift of his love, through which every good thing, pertaining to life and godliness, are freely given unto us.

This morning I want to speak to you concerning the GIFT that inspires all gifts.

††††††††††† It is an unspeakable gift.

The dictionary defines Unspeakable:

Precious beyond telling; Indescribable, (you cannot describe Jesus);

Inexpressible, (there arenít enough words that can tell all the truth about this gift)

There are three things in the N.T. that are unspeakable:

††††††††††† 1.WordsĖ Paul caught up into the 3rd heaven.

2 Corinthians 12:4 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

††††††††††††††††††††††† Paul was stoned to death.

††††††††††††††††††††††† For 14 years he never mentioned what he experienced in those moments of death.

††††††††††††††††††††††† He said, I donít want to sound like I am boasting,

††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††† But, I have been to heaven and heard them talking!!!

††††††††††††††††††††††† But, I donít take pleasure in that,

I take pleasure in my infirmities, in my weaknesses,

That the power of Christ would abide on me.

Here is power to break addictions and be victorious over weaknesses of the flesh.

††††††††††† 2.JoyĖ living in expectation of what it will be like being with Jesus.

1 Peter 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

††††††††††††††††††††††† We are naturally drawn to people with great Joy.

††††††††††††††††††††††† Believing brings a rejoicing, an unspeakable joy.

††††††††††† 3.The GiftĖ the unspeakable gift of God.

There are four things unspeakable about this gift:

I.             It was an unspeakable love that thought it.

John 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

A.        It is seen in Creation with Adam and Eve

1.             Adam was made with great love, then Eve with equal love and care.

2.             Then God joined them in that love.

B.         It is seen again in blackemption with Boaz and Ruth

1.             Ruth 2:1 Why have I found grace in thine eyes?

2.             Ruth wanted to know why Boaz would love her.

3.             Boaz had a love for Ruth that pictures the love of God for the sinner.

4.             It was an unmerited love.

C.        Godís love is great

1.             Godís love is unmerited,

a.              Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us

b.              We were yet sinners.Lost in sin.

c.              We were unlovable, in the human sense.

d.              Yet God loved us enough to send Christ to die for us.

e.              We donít come to God by our own righteousness.

f.                We had to be completely unlovable for His gift to be completely by GRACE.

2.             Godís love is unsought,

a.              Luke 15:4 What man of you, having an hundblack sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

b.              God pictures us as the lost sheep for which He must seek.

c.              You didnít seek God!†† He sought YOU!!!

d.              God seeks every lost soul

e.              Most refuse to be found

3.             Godís love is unending.

a.              Jer 31:3 The LORD hath appeablack of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

4.             Godís love is unchanging,

a.              Psalm 136:1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

b.              Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

II.          It was an unspeakable life that bought it.There was no sin in Jesus.

A.        His was a perfect life.

1.             Ever seen a perfect person?

2.             Ever heard of a perfect person?

a.              One woman said, ďYes, I have heard of one. According to my husband, it was his first wife.Ē

3.             Jesus led a perfect life.

B.         It was a sinless life.

1.             Examine His actions in the accounts in the Bible.

2.             Examine His attitudes, His purpose, all was sinless.

3.             He lived a life which is our example.

C.        It was a sacrificial life.

a.              His was a surrendeblack life.

b.              He had no home of His own.

c.              He carried no purse.

d.              He lived a life for others.

III.      It was an unspeakable death that wrought it.

A.  It was unspeakable in its object.

1.             The sinless Jesus died a sinnerís death.

2.             The priceless Son of God died for us.

3.             We were the object of His death.

4.             He died because of our condemnation, our guilt.

B.   It was unspeakable in its method.

1.             Jesus was crucified by wicked men

2.             But He yielded up his own life.

3.             ďNo man taketh my life from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.Ē

4.             He laid down His life for us.

C.  It was unspeakable in its power.

1.             It was a supernatural death.

a.              It turned dark at noon, the veil of the Temple rent, there was an earthquake

b.              The Saints rose out of their graves.

2.             This death brought an end to Satanís dreams.

a.              It was effectual for our guilt.

b.              It satisfied Godís justice.

IV.      There is unspeakable joy when taught it.

A.  There is an infinite mind that loves us, and remembers us.

1.             We have become His children.

2.             We are under His care.

B.   David said, ďRestore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold meĒ

C.  He had sinned against the Lord in his sin with Bathsheba.

1.             Now, that didnít take away his Salvation,

2.             But it did take away his JOY.

D.  Sometimes we continue in sin thinking we are hiding a treasure!!!

1.             We squander the precious JOY of our Salvation; for what?

2.             Are our sins truly worth the cost of lost JOY?

3.             What do we gain?Nothing! We LOSE.

E.   A Joyful Christian

1.             Joy comes from keeping our slate empty and our platter full.

a.              Our slate of sins must be confessed and forsaken.

b.              Our platter of service must be full and heartfelt.

CONCLUSION:Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.We must -

1.      Receive this gift

2.      Value this gift

3.      Give this gift
