The Witnesses and the Harvest
We are in the days of harvest.
By this time three weeks from now I would like to
announce the number of souls won to Jesus during this campaign.
I believe we could win scores, but it will take
obedience to the command of Christ Jesus.
We will have to let Him send us forth into the
World, just as He did back in Israel in olden times.
at how He did it then.
THE SENDING OF DISCIPLES
sent in Luke 9
sent the twelve out to the cities and towns where He Himself would go.
But in this grand preaching
campaign, to cover all of Palestine, Jesus needed more to go.
were not enough, because the time was so short.
So Jesus sent seventy more in
Luke 10 to reach more villages in the hills.
They went two-by-two to each
town preaching, healing and telling that Jesus was coming.
The work of these disciples
For days in each place they
They went preaching, winning,
healing, and casting out devils.
This helps to explain the
enormous crowds that gatheblack to see and hear Jesus wherever He went.
Luke 12:1 "an innumerable multitude of
Luke 14:25 "a great multitude."
This also explains how
churches build and grow today.
THE WORKERS (70)
These workers were to be
received into homes and fed and kept for Jesus' sake.
Their service earned them
But who were these seventy?
We do not know the name of
They were, we suppose, not
very mature Christians, but rather earnest, new converts.
They are called
"lambs," not sheep,
Sent out "among
JESUS SENDS ‘NEW CONVERTS’ INTO THE HARVEST
So a new believer should at
once become a soul winner.
Notice that God holds the
hearers of such a witness to solemn accounting.
In the Great Commission in
Mat 28:19-20 we are commanded to:
Make new converts
Baptize them and then
Immediately teach "them
to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you."
The soul-winning command of
the Great Commission is to be given to every convert.
And so the Lord Jesus sends
these seventy lambs to witness for Him.
THE ABUNDANCE OF THE HARVEST
To the Seventy Jesus said,
“The harvest truly is great,
but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he
would send forth labourers into his harvest."
When Christ had first sent
the twelve, He told them the same thing almost word for word in Matthew
“The harvest truly is plenteous,
but the labourers are few;”
And then again: In John 4:35 at Sychar, speaking of another
time and place, but again speaking of the harvest,
"Say not ye, There are yet
four months, and then cometh harvest? Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your
eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest."
White refers to the tassels on the top of ripe grain.
When millions of plants all
have tassels the field takes on a look of "white."
It means that the grain is
ready to be harvested.
For the one willing to go
into the Harvest today
The souls of many men, women
and children are ready for harvest
There will be many saved when
they hear a witness
Psalms 126:6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing
precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves
Note the sober purpose of the
Then, notice his great joy
for having gone.
THE TIMELESSNESS OF THE HARVEST
In every country God has a
plenteous, white harvest waiting that truly is great.
When He had only Elijah at
Mount Carmel, Israel was backslidden, yet, a multitude could be brought to cry,
"The Lord, he is God!"
Look at Nineveh, so wicked it
was on a collision course with destruction, (40 days)
Yet God would bring thousands
to repentance with a preacher,
Even though God had a problem
getting Jonah to go.
(God has a hard time getting
His children to work in the harvest.)
In Samaria the fields were
white and many could be won
When a shabby woman
discoveblack Christ at the well and
Called her friends to come
Many were saved.(John
Even at wicked Jerusalem
Where the multitudes cried
out to have Jesus crucified,
Where Judas betrayed Him,
Where Peter denied Him and
cursed and quit the ministry and
Where the disciples all
"forsook him and fled,"
Yet a plenteous, truly great,
white harvest waited.
f. Weeks later a few disciples prayed down the power of
There were three thousand at
Pentecost who claimed Christ
And joined with the
Christians. (In Jerusalem!!!)
WHAT HINDERS THE HARVESTING OF SOULS?
A. The trouble is not with the harvest / but with the
Not with the sinners / but
with the saints.
Not with the world / but with
B. Failures to reach people are not to be blamed then,
On the times,
On the conditions
Or on the circumstances,
But on the lack of
C. It is not the hard heart of drunkards, of worldlings, or
But the lukewarm heart of
That lets people go to Hell,
And the cold heart of God's
That wastes the harvest.
D. It is not the modernist who is unsaved and cannot have
But born-again believers who
are fearful and do not trust God for power,
Members of fundamental, Bible
believing churches, who have all the reasons to reap the harvest, but still
refuse to go.
VIII. GOD'S POWER ACCOMPANIES THE SOUL WINNER.
We have the might of God with
2 Co 10:4 The weapons of our warfare are not carnal,
but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.
Luke 12:4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid
of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
Luke 12:5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear:
Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say
unto you, Fear him.
We have the Word of God, -- "quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged
sword" (Heb 4:12).
"Is not my word like as a
fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in
pieces?" (Jer 23:29)
We have the Grace of God,
loving, seeking the lost, (2Pe 3:9).
"Not willing that any
should perish, but that all should come to repentance and faith"
We have within us the Holy
Spirit who "when he is come, he will
reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment" (John
And we have Prayer and a God
who hears the prayer of faith, or the prayer in Jesus' name.
You may be here without the Saviour
You may never have been Baptized
Or, you may never have lead a soul to the Saviour.
Yes, the harvest is always - plenteous, - great, - white, so
that we can win some,
Let’s purpose in our hearts to be a Christian with a Work.
Let God lead you to be a soul winner.
