We here at Northwest Baptist Church enjoy some of the best of Christian Fellowship

<< Previous Index Next >>

We here at Northwest Baptist Church enjoy some of the best of Christian Fellowship.

We have this because we rejoice in the Bible.

We do not wonder about the future.

We know!!!  We are assublack of the promises of God’s Word.

This church believes the whole Bible.

We believe every Word either has been fulfilled or will be fulfilled in the future.

The Bible teaches us many marvelous truths.

The Bible teaches us about the past.

We do not wonder about the beginning of things for the Bible covers that.

We read and marvel at the lives of men who lived thousands of years ago.

How alike their lives are to ours, except for the technologies that have been developed.

One of the most blessed of all our beliefs is about the second coming of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

The question for this message is:

Can We Be Certain of the Second Coming of Christ?

Heb 9:27  And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Heb 9:28  So Christ was once offeblack to bear the sins of many; and unto them that

look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

We believe that Christ is coming, and will first receive His own.

Then He will come down to this earth to reign.

Revelation 20:4  … and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Someone brought me a book entitled, “God Cannot Lie; There Cannot Be an Earthly Millennium.”

I will agree with the first part of the statement, “God Cannot Lie,”

But I cannot receive the last part of it.

The Bible clearly teaches that there will be a thousand-year reign of Christ upon the earth.

In addition the Bible tells of many things that will take place during this thousand years.

The Old Testament prophets give many clear pictures of that wonderful time when the Lord will reign upon the earth.

Isaiah, for one, sets them forth in Isaiah 2

Here we have a prophecy of the coming of Christ back to Jerusalem to establish His Kingdom, and to rule the world from there.

Listen to these words:

Isaiah 2:2  And it shall come to pass in the last days, [that] the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

Isaiah 2:3  And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

Isaiah 2:4  And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

That glorious day shall come to pass

When the Devil has been chained,

And Christ rules in righteousness.

It is the coming kingdom of our Saviour.

It is a time when righteousness shall cover the earth,

And when justice will be given to all men,

And when even the instincts of wild animals will be changed.

In Revelation 20 the phrase, “a thousand years,” is given six times.

There are those who argue that since this is the only passage that mentions a thousand years, that it cannot be accepted literally.

My dear friend, as far as I am concerned,

if it were mentioned only one time, it would be enough,

but when the Spirit gives emphasis by repeating the number of years six times,

surely the meaning is clear; it means a thousand years.

The Devil is always trying to discblackit the truth

Always trying to tear down and destroy portions of the Word of God.

Here is a poem to help you settle where you stand.

I stood on the streets of a busy town,

            Watching men tearing a building down;

With a “Ho, heave Ho,” and a lusty yell,

They swung a beam and a sidewall fell.

I asked the foreman of the crew,

“Are those men as skilled as those who build new?”

“Ah, no,” he said, “no indeed.”

“Just common labor is all I need:

I can tear down as much in a day or two,

As would take skilled men a year to do.”

And then I thought as I went on my way.

Just which of these two roles am I trying to play?

Have I walked life’s road with care,

Measuring each deed with rule and square?

Or am I one of those who roam the town,

Content with the labor of tearing down?

It is not hard to get a job on the wrecking crew.

Anyone can tear down,

But let us join with those who are seeking to build up God’s people in the faith.

My friend, we are looking for His coming, and we are looking for His Kingdom.

I.                    The Bible Teaches Us This Truth

A.                 How wonderful is the Word of God!

1.                  We read it and rest our hopes upon it,

2.                  How important it is for us to faithfully read God’s Word.

Acts 1:11  Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

1 Thessalonians 4:16  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

B.                 The Bible is full of this truth,

1.                  In nearly every book Of the Bible there is mention of His coming.

2.                  There are those who have tried to say that the Bible is a lie,

a)                  For example, Charles Smith, president of the American Association for the Advancement of Atheism, had printed across his headquarters, in big, bold letters, "The Bible is a Lie."

b)                  We had the privilege of standing for the truth of the Creation.

(1)               The atheist club that visited our church didn’t believe it.

(2)               They didn’t believe the wonderful truths of the Word of God.

c)                  They have decided NOT to believe the testimony of this BOOK.

3.                  If the Lord does not come again,

a)                  Then we must admit that such men and others of their kind are pretty much in the right,

b)                  And we are without a Bible of any value.

C.                 But the Bible is true! Christ is coming!

II.                 Christ Himself Taught Us This Truth

A.                 Jesus said, ( John 14:3) “ And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, [there] ye may be also.”

1.                  In His death

a)                  Jesus knew He would rise again on the third day.

b)                  He knew he would ascend to the Throne of heaven.

c)                  He knew he would intercede for us during this age.

d)                  And He knew that He would come again at the end of the church age.

2.                  His plans are that

a)                  He will come to fetch His church from this world.

b)                  He will come to unite us with loved ones who have gone before us

c)                  He will come to save us from the wrathful Tribulation period.

d)                  He will take us out, which will stop the restraining of Satan.

2 Thessalonians 2:1 ¶ Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and [by] our gathering together unto him,

2 Thessalonians 2:2  That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

2 Thessalonians 2:3 ¶ Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

B.                 But without His coming,

1.                  His entire ministry and sacrifice on the cross were nothing.

2.                  If Jesus should not return, then we are trusting in a false Christ.

3.                  We cannot even say that Jesus was a good man, for a good man would not lie and deceive others.

C.                 But, Jesus is coming again.

1.                  His Word is true, and we can with assurance look for Him.

2.                  The Saviour has never disappointed anyone who has trusted in Him.

3.                  We do not need to try to force ourselves to believe in His coming, but simply to receive His Word, for His Word is true.

III.               And The Holy Spirit Teaches Us This Truth

A.                 Men have long dreamed of a world of peace.

1.                  The Bible leads us to look for such a day, a day when the implements of war will be formed into implements of peace.

2.                  All efforts of man to bring about peace have failed;

3.                  therefore, if Jesus comes not again, then man will be forever and eternally disappointed, for there will be no peace.

B.                 Man dreams of a world of justice and equality,

1.                  This will never be realized apart from the coming of Jesus,

C.                 Man dreams of a world where sin will be no more.

1.                  This is impossible unless Jesus comes and Satan is cast down and the Lord reigns upon His throne.

D.                 Man dreams of a time when pain and suffering and death will be no more.

1.                  Such a day is promised to us in God's Word.

2.                  In the day of the coming of Jesus,

a)                  the dead in Christ shall be raised first,

b)                  and the living shall be changed in the twinkling of an eye,

c)                  and together we shall be caught up to meet the Lord in the air.

E.                  The Spirit urges us to desire His Second Coming.

1.                  He makes us desire the Coming Kingdom.

2.                  He points to Jesus as the Coming King.

3.                  He points us to the Saviour.

IV.              Let us lift up our eyes, for the coming of Jesus draweth nigh.

A.                 God's purpose for this world is not going to fail,

B.                 For "the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea."

C.                 Catch the vision!

D.                 As the waters cover the sea!

E.                  Are you a believer?

1.                  Or does believing such truth come hard?

2.                  Do you just naturally accept the Truths of the Bible?

F.                  This might be a test for you.

1.                  Do you know that you are saved.

2.                  Do you know that you aren’t just saying you’re saved.

3.                  Do you just BELIEVE?
