Peace in a life of Integrity

Peace in a life of Integrity

Job 2:3  And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou consideblack my servant Job, that [there is] none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.

Character and integrity are basically the same.

It pleased God that Job kept his integrity though tried by Satan.

Those in my life who have been the greatest beacon to me, are those who have held fast to their INTEGRITY.

The greatest battle going on in this world is the battle for your mind. When a person has no discipline over what goes into his mind, he becomes a city without walls.

"He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls" (Prov. 25:28).

Anything is free to enter or leave.  There is no integrity.

We must have walls around the mind.

These walls are found in Philippians 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report: if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

What you think about, you become . . .

"As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he" (Proverbs 23:7).

When you allow yourself to think about things that can not be characterized by the words above, you become like your thoughts.

Are your thoughts unloving, irreverent, displeasing, etc . . .?

May God give you the grace to build walls around your mind that will give you INTEGRITY.

It has been said,  “Blessed is a man who has direction for today, purpose for tomorrow and a heritage for the future.”  In Proverbs we find three occurrences of the word integrity:

I.          Integrity answers the need of direction:

Proverbs 11:3 ¶ The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

A.        Times of temptation come often.

1.         Luke 8:13  They on the rock [are they], which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

2.         The faithless has no answer for temptations.

B.         But our faith builds integrity.

1.         1 Corinthians 10:13  There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God [is] faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [it].

2.         We need to bear-up under the load of temptations.

a)         God will provide a way out.

b)         God will strengthen us.

3.         We need to commit our ways unto the Lord.

a)         Our walk at work.

b)         Our walk in our home.

c)         Our walk in our community.

4.         We need to trust in the Lord with all our heart, and lean not unto our own understanding, and He shall direct our paths.

C.         And the Integrity which we have from the Lord will guide us.

II.        Integrity answers the need of purpose:

Proverbs 19:1 ¶ Better [is] the poor that walketh in his integrity, than [he that is] perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

A.        A purpose that is greater than wealth.

1.         I see happier people in our Christian fellowship suppers, than at any rich man’s dinner.

2.         Money is not a purpose for the Christian.

a)         The LOVE of money is the root of all evil - the Bible says.

B.         A purpose greater than popularity.

1.         Some seek the approval of the world.

2.         How empty are the lives of those whose purpose is fame.

C.         A purpose greater than selfish gain.  Some religion is a cloak for selfishness.

For men shall be lovers of their own selves . . . Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.  2 Tim 3:1f

D.        Integrity - character gives something to live for.

III.       Integrity answers the need of heritage:

Proverbs 20:7  The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.

A.        Peace comes to the one whose family is safe.

B.         Peace comes to the one whose treasures are laid up in heaven.

1.         Where thieves cannot break through and steal; rust doesn’t corrupt, moths...

C.         Peace comes to the one whose future is secure.

1.         Romans 8:28  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.

Romans 8:38-39  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
