The Treasure. A common interpretation of this difficult parable is that it represents Christ's leaving the glory of the Father to restore Israel, the treasure hidden in the world. Who is God's treasure (Ps.135:4; Ex.19:5)?
The Pearl of Great Price. A picture of Christ giving Himself for the Church (Eph.5:25-27). We take the following outline from Dr. Scofield:
1. A pearl is one, a perfect symbol of unity(1 Cor.10:17; 1 Cor.12:13; Eph.4:4-6).
2. A pearl is formed by accretion and that not mechanically but vitally through a living one, as Christ adds to the church (Acts 2:41-44; Acts 5:14; Eph.2:21).
3. Christ having given Himself for the pearl, is now preparing it for presentation to Himself (Eph.5:25-27).
The Drag-Net. This parable vividly pictures the separation of the good from the bad at the end of the age (Matt.25:31-46;Rev.14: 14-20;Rev.7:1-3; 8:2-7).
The stilling of the tempest (Matt.8:23-27; Mark 4:35-41; Luke 8: 22-25).
What caused Jesus to cross to the other side of the lake (Matt.8:18; Mark 4:35-41)? Why did Jesus go to sleep (John 4:6)? Were the disciples really in danger? What fact did the disciples doubt (Matt.8:25)? What is the answer to their question (1 Pet. 5:7)? What does Jesus' action in stilling the storm show Him to be (Job 38:8-11;Ps.89:9)? Who probably caused the storm (Job 1:12, 19)?
